Images can make a Story easier to understand and more engaging for readers. Use a single image when one picture supports the message, or arrange several images into a gallery when you want to show a set of related photos.
Add an image
- Open the Story you want to edit.
- Place your cursor where the image should appear.
- Drag an image file from your computer into the Story editor, or use the add block button and select Image.
- Wait for the image to upload and appear in the Story.
- Select the image to open its Block settings.
- Add Alternative Text unless the image is purely decorative.
Alternative text is used by assistive technology such as screen readers to describe images to users who may not be able to see them. It should briefly describe what the image is and include any important information from the image.

Add several images
- Open the Story you want to edit.
- Drag multiple image files from your computer into the editor, or add a Gallery block from the block inserter.
- Check that each image has uploaded successfully.
- Select each image and add suitable Alternative Text where needed.
- Review the gallery layout in the Story.
Arrange images into a gallery
To create a gallery-style layout, place related images together rather than spreading them through the Story.
- Add the images you want to group together.
- Drag the images alongside each other within the editor to arrange them as a gallery.
- Move the images until the order makes sense for readers.
Use galleries for sets of related images, such as photos from one event, trip or classroom activity. If each image needs its own explanation, separate image blocks with short text may be clearer.
