Adding a Diary Date block

Use a Diary Date block when an event needs to stand out in a Story. Readers can use the Add to calendar button on the published Edition to add the event to their own calendar. This is compatible with all major calendar apps and services.

Before you use the Diary Date block, you should first add your event calendar feed to Ecko if you have one.

Add the block

  1. Open the Story you want to edit.
  2. Place your cursor where the event should appear.
  3. Use the add block button or type / to open the block inserter.
  4. Select Diary Date.
  5. Select the Diary Date block so its settings appear in the Block settings panel.

Enter an event manually

If you don’t want to add your calendar feed to Ecko, you can still add events manually.

  1. In Event Source, choose Enter manually. If you haven’t provided a calendar feed, this option won’t be shown and you’ll be in manual mode by default
  2. Enter the event title.
  3. Turn on All day event if the event does not need start and end times.
  4. Turn on Multi-day event if the event runs across more than one day.
  5. Choose the start date.
  6. Add the start time and end time if the event is not all day.
  7. In the Additional information, optionally add a description or location if applicable.
  8. Check the block preview in the Story.

The description and location aren’t displayed in the Diary Date block, but they do get passed on to the reader’s calendar app and may be displayed there.

Add an event from your calendar feed

If you’ve provided a calendar feed URL, you can add events from you school calendar to a Diary Date block without needing to re-enter all the information. If you update an event in your calendar, Ecko will automatically display those changes. Ecko checks your calendar for updates every hour so changes may not appear immediately

  1. In Event Source, choose Use calendar feed.
  2. Select the event you want to display from the Calendar event list
  3. Optionally, enter the event title in the Title override field
