You can add diary dates from newsletter directly to your own calendar with a couple of taps. This allows you to keep track of events and, if you wish, set an alert to remind you before it starts.
How to add a diary date
- Tap the Add to your calendar icon button alongside the highlighted date
- Choose the calendar app or service where you normally keep your calendar.
- Sign in if asked, then confirm the subscription by selecting Add, Save or a similar option, depending on the app you use.
Choose the service you use rather than the type of phone you have. For example, choose Google Calendar if you use Google Calendar on an iPhone. Choose Apple Calendar if you want the dates added to your Apple or iCloud calendar.
If none of the listed options works with your calendar app, select Download .ics. This will download a standard iCal event file, which can be imported into most calendar apps.
Common problems
I added the event but I can’t see it in my calendar
On most devices, once you click the button in the newsletter to add the event to your calendar, you usual calendar app will open and display a summary of the event you’re about to add. At this stage the event has not yet been added to your calendar.
Many people mistake this for confirmation the event has been added. In fact, you still need to find the ‘Save’ or ‘Confirm’ button to actually add the event to your calendar.
Another issue could be that you have multiple calendars (eg. Personal, Work, Family, etc.) and you’ve added the event to a hidden calendar. Check your calendar app to make sure all your calendars are enabled.
The school changed a date, but my calendar hasn’t updated
Unlike the academic calendar feed, individual diary dates aren’t kept in sync with your school. If the school cancels or reschedules and event, you’ll need to delete and re-add it to your calendar.
The event appears on one device but not another
Check that both devices are signed in to the same Google, Microsoft or Apple account and that calendar syncing is enabled.
For Apple Calendar, the event needs to be saved to iCloud rather than only to the individual device if you want it to appear everywhere.
